New Year Resolutions?

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to the year!

With the new year also comes new years resolutions for so many of us. Now while I love the idea of new year resolutions, improving ourselves and doing things we’ve always wanted to try, I also think there not the most proactive. What I mean to say is, when we come up with these new years resolutions at the end of the year, we spend so much time thinking about what our ultimate goal for the year will be and so little time if any on planning the little steps needed to help us reach this goal.

This is probably the number one reason why so many of us fail with our resolutions. We haven’t prepared or planned the most important part.

What I wanted to share with you today is my favorite way of planning those little steps. It’s called monthly habits. I got the idea from a video I watched a couple years ago by Alex Ikonn, I’ll actually link it here so you can watch it. In the video he talks about how at the start of every month he tries to implement one good habit into his life. The habits can be anything, they could be not checking social media after 10 o’clock, waking up at 6am every morning or dedicating 20 minutes to reading every day, the choices are endless.

Now you can choose either to do random different good habits for the year like the ones I just mentioned or you can make them more specific to your goal for the year. To show what I mean I made a little planner/schedule of the year with the habits of that month next to it. For the example I used Learning Photography as the new years resolution..



As you can see every month I’ve added a habit or challenge that will help me learn photography and really better myself at it. You’ll be making this same exact planner/schedule except instead of “learn photography” you’ll add your goal and then make the habits or challenges specific to that.

Just grab a book or a piece of paper, write it all down and then stick it somewhere you know you’ll see it everyday. It’s as easy as that!

The next step is putting in the hard work, patience and time into accomplishing these little steps. Give it all you’ve got and don’t be to hard on yourself if you make a mistake or don’t reach your goal for the day, there is always tomorrow!

Journey To A Positive Life One Journal At A Time

In today’s post I wanted to talk to you about positivity and the 5 Minute Journal. I am a big believer that with a positive mindset you can accomplish anything your heart desires. But let’s be real saying we’re going to be positive and actually being positive are two different things. We all know that gratefulness = a positive mindset, but it can be hard sometimes to remember to just sit still and reflect on everything we’re so blessed to have. That’s were the 5 Minute Journal comes into play!


I first discovered the 5 Minute Journal after watching a video from Alex Ikonn, who also happens to be the creator of this journal along with his good friend Uj Ramdas. It was around the end of 2014, I think, and I had just discovered Alex and Mimi’s channels and I remember just being instantly drawn to their positivity and attitude towards life. It was so refreshing to see two people who were so full of passion and motivation to change the world through their work. One of the videos I watched of theirs happened to mention the 5 Minute Journal and as you can probably guess I was quick to jump online to see where I could purchase the journal for myself.

I first started using the 5 Minute Journal in January 2015 {it was actually my new years resolution} and I haven’t stopped since. What makes it so special for me is it’s a way I can spend 5 minutes every morning and every night to reflect on all the wonderful people, opportunities, things and memories I’m blessed to have in my life. I think it’s really important for all of us to have a way to show our gratitude because only when we are grateful for what we already have can we be ready for even more amazing things to enter our life.



In the picture above, which I got from the Intelligent Change site, is a diagram of everything that’s featured in the journal.

Every morning you fill out the date, list 3 things your grateful for, 3 things you can do to make that day great and add a daily affirmation.


Every night you list 3 amazing things that happened that day and write a few ways you think you could have made the day even better.

It’s as simple as that so you can’t make any excuses about how you don’t have enough time or your too busy.

Everything on the app is exactly the same as the physical book except for the added feature of being able to add photos to your journal in the app. Which I think is such a cute idea and really adds such a special touch. Option Four: Create your own 5 Minute Journal. Like Alex mentioned in one of his vlogs it’s important to just start. If that means going to Target or Officeworks, buying a $2 dollar notebook and writing out the journal pages into that then by all means do that. What’s most important is your taking action to change your mindset and your life. I personally did this myself when I first started doing the 5 Minute Journal and I’m so glad I did because if I had waited until I could afford to buy it I never would be were I am today.
