New Year Resolutions?

My Musings, Uncategorized

Hello my beautiful readers,

I hope you’ve all had a wonderful start to the year!

With the new year also comes new years resolutions for so many of us. Now while I love the idea of new year resolutions, improving ourselves and doing things we’ve always wanted to try, I also think there not the most proactive. What I mean to say is, when we come up with these new years resolutions at the end of the year, we spend so much time thinking about what our ultimate goal for the year will be and so little time if any on planning the little steps needed to help us reach this goal.

This is probably the number one reason why so many of us fail with our resolutions. We haven’t prepared or planned the most important part.

What I wanted to share with you today is my favorite way of planning those little steps. It’s called monthly habits. I got the idea from a video I watched a couple years ago by Alex Ikonn, I’ll actually link it here so you can watch it. In the video he talks about how at the start of every month he tries to implement one good habit into his life. The habits can be anything, they could be not checking social media after 10 o’clock, waking up at 6am every morning or dedicating 20 minutes to reading every day, the choices are endless.

Now you can choose either to do random different good habits for the year like the ones I just mentioned or you can make them more specific to your goal for the year. To show what I mean I made a little planner/schedule of the year with the habits of that month next to it. For the example I used Learning Photography as the new years resolution..

As you can see every month I’ve added a habit or challenge that will help me learn photography and really better myself at it. You’ll be making this same exact planner/schedule except instead of “learn photography” you’ll add your goal and then make the habits or challenges specific to that.

Just grab a book or a piece of paper, write it all down and then stick it somewhere you know you’ll see it everyday. It’s as easy as that!

The next step is putting in the hard work, patience and time into accomplishing these little steps. Give it all you’ve got and don’t be to hard on yourself if you make a mistake or don’t reach your goal for the day, there is always tomorrow!

I hope this helps you reach your goals. Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read this! I love you all and I’ll talk to you next Monday!

Books I’m Reading This Month

books, Uncategorized

Hello my beautiful readers,

How are you all doing? For today I wanted to share with you a few of the books I plan on reading this month…and next month as well technically since we are a few days away from getting into July. I still can’t believe how fast June has gone by!

I don’t want to make this post to long to read so I’m gonna get straight into my list of “To Read Books”!

EGO IS THE ENEMY – RYAN HOLIDAY

The first book I am reading, well listening to is Ego Is The Enemy by Ryan Holiday. I would have had no idea about this book if it wasn’t for Alex Ikonn, which if you don’t know who that is definitely check him out I’ll link his social media accounts below. He’s always reading the most interesting books so I always make sure to check out books he mentions or recommends. As I mentioned before I am listening to the audio-book version of Ego is Enemy, I am only 20 minutes in as I write this,  and so far I’m really liking it. I’m still really early into the book, it’s a 7 hour listen, so I haven’t really made up my opinions on it just yet but as soon as I finish the book I’ll definitely put up a book review on here letting you know my thoughts on it.

IMPROVISATION FOR THE THEATER – VIOLA SPOLIN

Acting has always been something I have been really passionate about and I really wanted to learn more about it. After searching online and going through hundreds of acting books, I was really spoiled for choice, I ended up choosing Improvisation For The Theater by Viola Spolin. I’ve heard really great things about this book plus it’s been featured on a lot of “Books every actor/actress should read” lists. So I thought why not give it a whirl also improvisation has always been something that has really fascinated me a lot.

Here’s a clip taken from the documentary Improv Legends which explores the work of Viola Spolin…

I have been interested in film making for as long as I can remember. I’ve been studying it for a while now and I really wanted to find a great book that can give me more insight into film making. This one came highly recommended by so many people and has been refereed to by many as the filmmaker’s bible. I’m really looking forward to reading this book, I have a feeling I’m gonna love it!

Those are all the books I plan on reading these next few weeks. I hope I’ve encouraged at least one of you to give these books a try. If these books aren’t really your taste then feel free to let me know in the comments what books you plan on or are currently reading, I’d love to hear from you.  🙂

I’ll talk to you all in my next post!

A conversation between Salman & Elon

screen-shot-2015-07-15-at-9-59-11-pmHello my beautiful readers,

How have you all been? I feel like I haven’t written on here in forever, life has just got really busy and stressful and unfortunately this blog has taken a huge back burner to everything else. I take the quality of the content I upload on here very seriously and I never feel right uploading anything I think is rushed and not worth your time.

I am so grateful to all of you for taking the time out of your day to read my posts and for that reason I always want to make sure I’m uploading my very best work. However I also do know a blog is nothing without constant new content so I will try my best to upload on here at least 2 or 3 times a month until I can get a better schedule organized and made.

For today I wanted to share with you all a talk I watched the other day which I thought was so interesting to listen too. It was filmed at Khan Academy with the founder Salman Khan talking with Elon Musk about everything from Paypal, how SpaceX came to be, what were some of the struggles he faced when he was first starting out, how someone can actually go about starting a rocket company and a whole lot more. I might be a little prejudice since I tend to like every interview or talk Elon does but trust me this one is one you don’t want to miss. It’s really fascinating and insightful and really funny too!

If you end up watching it let me know what you thought of it in the comments below! Did you like it, hate it, get inspired by it!

I’ll talk to you all in my next post! 🙂

Gary Vaynerchuk: The Social Media King

Inspirational People, Uncategorized

Hello my beautiful readers,

How are you all this beautiful day?

For today I wanted to officially kick of my new series for this blog. The series will be called ‘People Who Inspire Me’, that’s what I’m going to call the series for now but I’m thinking I might change the name down the road to something else. My main goal of this series is to once a month introduce to you all someone who has inspired and changed my life in hopes that you to can get inspired and motivated by them.

To kick this new series of the first person I’ve chosen to feature is the king of social media Gary Vaynerchuk.

I first discovered Gary a few months back and he has honestly changed my life so much since then. I am so grateful for the invaluable advice and lessons he has taught me, he’s someone who has really helped me understand social media marketing and business so much more clearly now. I actually took a few business courses online before I found Gary’s Youtube channel and I can tell you right now I absolutely hated them. I learnt more from watching one of Gary’s 20 minute videos then I ever learnt in a 3 day course.

I really recommend to anyone whose considering taking a business course to first go and watch Gary’s videos and read his books before spending money on a course. Personally I think you’ll learn a ton of amazing advice from him since he has been running businesses for years now so he has a lot of experience and knowledge on the subject.

                                           BOOKS BY GARY

Crush It: Why NOW Is The Perfect Time To Cash In On Your Passion

Crush it is definitely one of my go to books for inspiration. In this book Gary shares how he took his family’s local retail wine business and turned it into a national industry leader just by using social media.

….also let me know in the comments whether you prefer I find video book reviews like this or if you like it better when I write out what I think about the book with a quick summary!

Where you can get it:

#AskGaryVee: One Entrepreneur’s Take on Leadership, Social Media, and Self-Awareness

This book is actually one of his new releases, it just came out today. Even though I haven’t yet read it yet I have no doubt that it’ll be just as amazing as his previous books. A little of what you can expect to read about in this book is marketing, entrepreneurship, and management. He also talks about complex issues that affect everyone in the workforce, from the value of a traditional education to the best investment strategies. Gary also shares a lot of his personal stories and lessons he’s learnt from years of working in a family business, raising children and getting healthy.

Where you can get it:

The AskGaryVeeShow is a show Gary does on Youtube where he answers questions sent by his fans about marketing, family business, social media, entrepreneurship, and startups . The episodes are always filled with so much priceless and valuable advice and tips, you should definitely check out this show!!! You will not regret it!!

DailyVee is a vlog series Gary started at the end of last year where he gives us a behind the scenes look at what his life looks like in a day. It’s a great series to watch if you want to get some insight into what his life is like as an entrepreneur and see just how hard he works.

I really hope you enjoyed this post!! I had so much fun writing it for you all and I hope Gary inspires you just as much as he’s inspired me. I’ll talk to you all in my next post.
